August 2018 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to United South Middle School.  My name is Carlos Valdez and I am the newly appointed principal for this awesome campus. As I embark on my 21st year in education, I know I am more than ready to serve the wonderful Leopard Community. I welcome you to share in our experience this year as we set out to make United South Middle School a trendsetter in education.

Our theme this year was inspired by the great Mahatma Gandhi who stated “Be the change you want to see in the world.”   Gandhi was the voice of hope in a time of desperation for his people.  We want to inspire our students to also be the voices of their generation by exemplifying the qualities needed to be high achievers and world changers. As our students deal with real world problems, it will be our goal to help them gain perspective and rationale on how to become problem solvers and responsible global citizens.  As we deal with real world problems, we will help our students gain perspective and rationale on how to become a complete global citizen.   I would like to take this opportunity to share several key points that will help us grow our partnership in educating our students in a positive manner.

Our students matter-every day, every student, always!  We cannot be successful if your child is not here.  Think of our school as a bank.  We are depositing daily into to their academic account.   We will withdraw their deposits at the end of the year not only on their STAAR assessments, but on the academic, social, and emotional growth.  We are here to help you and your student experience the best education that we have to offer.

The USMS faculty and staff are committed to excellence and promise to make every day count.  We are eagerly anticipating the return of our students and are ready to make sure that our students experience a first class education.  As a United faculty, we will face the challenges that lay before us and work diligently to make sure that in addition to a first-class education; our students also experience the most well-rounded education they can possibly have in an environment that is inviting and safe and where all feel loved, respected and safe.

In addition, we are ready to create partnerships with all parents so that we have a successful school environment because without parental input, our school is incomplete.  For this reason, we look forward to establishing meaningful relationships with all our parents.  Furthermore, we will strive to have the best customer service experience for all our stakeholders.

Finally, we thank you for entrusting your children to us.  I know I speak for my staff and myself when I say, it is an honor and a privilege to be part of their academic careers.  At this time, I would also like to take the time to invite you to our Meet the Teacher Night on August 29, 2018.  This event will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.   If you have any questions, please contact us at 956-473-7700 or via email at  Thank you and I look forward to a great 2018-2019 school year.
