My name is Jane Samson, and I am your child’s Functional Living Skills teacher. This is my 14th year teaching at United South Middle. Before coming here I taught at the Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center and for 25 Years was its School Director. Teaching is my life’s calling and my passion. I am also a wife and a mother.  I am excited to be a part of your child’s growing years.  Welcome to my classroom!

Class Expectations

This school year is going to be an exciting one. My goal is to teach your child how to become as independent as possible and to develop to his / her fullest individual potential. Students in my class will have access to their grade level TEKS through prerequisite skills linked to the grade level curriculum. I will also be using Unique Learning Systems N2Y Curriculum this year in all subject areas.

Students are expected to arrive to school on time, ready to work and dressed according to school policy. Students are expected to do their homework to the best of their ability. Homework will part of each student’s grade.  For some students there may be written and oral exams however most students are typically tested in methods other than pencil paper exams such as observation of student performance while the student manipulates items, verbalizes responses, eye gazes or activating an augmentative communication system.

United South Middle School follows a PBIS behavior system. Our motto is for all students to ROAR! In other words be Respectful, Orderly, Accountable and Responsible. The schools policies and procedures for behavior were discussed with your child in class last week and will be reviewed as needed. You can access more information about this on the schools website: usms.unitedisd.org.

My conference time is from 1:37 – 2:32 PM.  If you have any questions or concerns you can leave me a message and I will get back to you in a timely manner. My classroom phone number 473-7766 and email is jsamso83@uisd.net .The Principal in charge of Special Education is Mr. Carlos Valdez at 473-7702 or email him at carlosv@uisd.net

Parents are the most important people in a child’s life, and we need to work together for the benefit of your child.  I need your support with academic, homework and discipline matters.  In return, I will keep you informed about all aspects of your child’s experiences at school.  With teachers and parents working together, our children will have a very successful and memorable year.  Thank you for your help and support.

  Sincerely,

Mrs. Jane Samson
